"I Support Midwives" Conference Call
Tuesday, February 24, 2014 8:00-9:00 p.m.

Call (712) 432-1500 -- access code: 321158# to dial in to a Mississippi Friends of Midwives conference call just for supporters of Mississippi midwives. We will discuss the history of MFOM and why our mission of promoting and protecting midwifery in Mississippi is so important. We will also discuss our upcoming movie screening of "Freedom For Birth" at Morning Bell Record Store and Cafe in Jackson on March 3rd and why a woman's right to birth as she wishes should be considered a human rights issue. Lastly, we will discuss details of our "Rally For Midwives" at the Mississippi State Capitol on March 4 at 2pm. If you have never visited the Capitol we will be sure to answer your questions about bringing your kids (please do!), where to park and where to meet other midwifery supporters.

Please call in to participate in the conference call or just to listen. If your kids are loud like mine, you are welcome to listen to the call on mute!

What is Freedom for Birth?
"Freedom for Birth" is a 58 minute documentary that reframes women's birthing rights as one of the most pressing human rights issues in the world today.
“Freedom For Birth” is more than just a film. It marks the beginning of a movement that will focus global attention on the violations of women's rights during childbirth all around the world.
All women should have the right, protected by law, to decide where and how they give birth.
The problem is that the rise of a dominant obstetric "machine" is robbing women of this right.
The result is that many women are being subjected to medical interventions and c-sections they neither want or need.
Tragically, midwives, the very guardians of normal birth, are being persecuted and criminally prosecuted to the extent that some have even been imprisoned.
"Freedom for Birth" highlights the human rights abuses happening right now in North America, Europe, Australia and beyond.
And, the film offers up a solution that can help protect womens' rights
And that solution involves you!

"Rally For Midwives" at the MS State Capitol
Tuesday, March 4, 2014   2:00 p.m.

Please join midwifery supporters at the Mississippi State Capitol on Tuesday, March 4. We will meet at the South Steps (back entrance of the Capitol) at 2.

Together we will join to show legislators that safe and legal access to midwives is important to Mississippi families! If the weather is nice, we will remain outside for the children to play on the grounds as the adults discuss our ideal vision of midwives in Mississippi and how to make those dreams a reality. If the weather does not cooperate, we will move the group into the Rotunda on the bottom floor of the Capitol. As a public building, you are welcome to roam the grounds and the Capitol and reach out to your legislators about topics important to you.

Parking is available on the street. Children are welcome. If you would like, please bring a sign showing your support of Mississippi midwives!

Please call Laura Dearman at 601-214-3144 with questions.
